I'm having an issue with Sydney's teacher. This lady is going to drive me crazy. I have to say she is probably the worst teacher. We were given this lady from one of Tim's patients who use to be a principal at the school Sydney goes to; she highly recommended her. I say she sucks! My reasons....one of the kids in her class has told her repeatedly he was going to kill her with a gun. I informed the teacher and the principal (different than the one mentioned above). Teacher does nothing and principal pretty much does nothing either. At this school there is not a zero-tolerance policy. They believe in common sense and using it at this school. I say they are stupid! I'm sorry but you threaten MY kids life and you just tell him to not do it anymore?! UMM PROBLEM! This kid has told her about 4 times he was going to kill her. The principal did talk to Sydney and told her she could feel safe and not to worry that he wouldn't give her anymore problems and that they were to stay away from each other. Its been a few months with no threats, but still I am very upset that nothing further was done. I even told the principal that he should be suspended. Do we all remember Columbine? Or the Virginia Tech shootings? Do we really need a third grader coming in with a gun to school and killing a bunch of kids? Oh but wait if he does that we will just tell him to use his common sense and not to do it again.
More reasons.... The teacher has told me Sydney is ADD. Now if you know my kid, she may act a little like Jessica Simpson at times, but she is not ADD. Her reasons for telling me she is ADD is because when the door opens she looks. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Who in the heck is not going to look when someone comes into a room! And she had the gall to tell me and Tim this while Sydney was sitting right there! I took this to the principal and he said he would talk to the teacher about it and that it was inappropriate for her to do that in front of Sydney. YA THINK?! (there is nothing wrong with being ADD, I just know Sydney is not)
More reasons...There is another boy in her class who constantly swears in her face every morning. She has asked him to stop and he continues to do it. So Sydney has told the teacher about it and the teacher says OK and changes the subject. Well it happened again yesterday and the teacher told Sydney that she thinks that she is making it up just to get Billy into trouble! WHAT?! I promptly emailed the teacher telling her that this issue needed to be resolved immediately because Sydney does not make crap up just to get some kid into trouble! I also copied the email to the principal and I let the teacher know that I did that :)! I am so sick and tired of Sydney getting crapped on all the time. She is so giving and loving to others and they just take her for granted. She also is a bit (ok a lot) concerned when other kids don't choose the right. We have to tell her quite often that not all kids know what we know and they don't care. They follow the example of their parents and how they treat others. But in our family we treat others with respect even if they don't deserve it. As hard as that is, that's what needs to happen.
Oh and the teacher emailed me back about the kid swearing and said that the principal was handling it and that Sydney should feel safe at school. I will tell you I will feel a whole lot safer if they actually took threats seriously and adopted the zero-tolerance policy. I'm sorry but not all kids have common sense! My own kid sometimes lacks in that department! (but who doesn't!)
So there ya go...any thoughts on more that I could do..seriously thinking of changing schools, but would that just teach Sydney that it's ok to run from her problems? That's not a good thing either! Ok thoughts....

I emailed you about this. This really is awful.
oh man Jill, so sorry!!! That stinks that the school does not support the parents and a zero tolerance policy!! The teacher needs to be put in her place and the principal needs to take charge. Maybe you need to go to the super indentendant?
Love you girl!
I have actually been thinking about going to the super intendant. That may be my only choice.
What in the world? What school district are you in? We also have a zero tolerance policy at Hailey's school and it is fully inforced. This is the problem, yes, they may be young but something needs to be done now before it gets out of hand. We let these things slide and these kids think it is ok behavior. If you aren't getting results from the pricipal you need to keep going up the ladder until it is taken care of.
We are unfortunately in the Battle Ground School District. And we don't have a zero tolerance policy. We tried everything we could to find a house out of this district, but everything we found was in it. So we know there is some reason why we are here, just aren't sure why yet!
That is pretty stinky, I agree. It's hard to draw the line in parenting between doing what is right and being known as the pot-stirrer. Tough call, but if you feel so strongly about it I would recommend going to the super intendant as well. The Zero Tolerance policy definitely needs to be enforced. Poor Sydney; she must be one being prepared to do big things! =)
